Feng shui, sometimes called Chinese geomancy, is the old practice of arranging a home or a grave so the natural forces around it stay in balance. Mystic China borrows four of those forces and paints them onto the reels. The rest of the game is a classic five-reel line slot.
The four elements, and the treasures around them
The low symbols are four characters, each in its own colour:
- 風 feng, wind, in violet
- 水 shui, water, in bright blue
- 火 huo, fire, in orange
- 土 tu, earth, in green
The pictures are a pink lotus, a blue-and-white porcelain vase, a painted silk fan and a red lantern with the character 福 (good fortune). A gold dragon also appears on the reels. Golden dragons curl up both sides of the frame, and a jackpot meter sits at the top.
Wild and scatter
The gold WILD, framed in flames, stands in for regular symbols to complete lines. In the screenshots it lands on reels two and three and joins lines of vases, fans and fortune lanterns.
The scatter is a round bronze disc marked SCATTER. Like any scatter it counts wherever it lands rather than along a line. The old guide said nothing about the scatter's reward or any free spins, so check the paytable in the game menu rather than trusting a guess.
Lines and stake
Line numbers 1 to 25 run down both sides, and the total bet is always 25 times the per-line bet: 25 at a bet of 1, 100 at a bet of 4. The balance box is labelled MY CHIPS, and AUTO repeats your spin.
A "win" is not always a profit. Two of the screenshots show wins of 3 and 11 on a total bet of 25, so the spin still cost more than it paid back. That is normal on a 25-line slot, and worth remembering when the win counter flashes.
