Unicorns on XE88: the forest slot where the unicorn turns wild

Unicorns has been in the XE88 lobby for a long time, and it is still the slot most visitors to this site look up first. The old write-up sold it as a "symbol of magic and miracle". Fair enough, but it is more useful to know what is actually on the reels and what the unicorn does once it lands.

A forest at night, five reels wide

The game runs on five reels of three rows against a dark blue forest. Line numbers from 1 to 25 run down both edges, so all 25 lines are in play on every spin. The cast:

• woodland animals: a squirrel holding an acorn, a pink-eared rabbit, a hummingbird and a butterfly
• a dark-haired woman with a flower in her hair
• a full moon
• cut gems in blue, green, red and orange as the low-value symbols
• a purple spellbook marked SCATTER and a framed JACKPOT symbol

When the unicorn shows up

The unicorn is the reason to play. It arrives as a tall image covering a whole reel, and in one of the screenshots that reel turns into a column reading WILD. Any line that runs through it can count it as the symbol it needs, which is how a pair of women on reels one and two becomes a paying line in that shot.

A reel-high wild in the middle of the grid touches every line that crosses it, so one landing can feed several wins at once. It does not appear often, and there is no way to make it appear more often.

Bets, the jackpot meter and the scatter

The Bet control sets the stake per line and the Total bet box multiplies it by 25. The screenshots show a bet of 1 (total 25) and a bet of 3 (total 75). Auto repeats the spin until you stop it.

The jackpot meter at the top keeps changing between screenshots, so it is a live, growing figure. The framed JACKPOT symbol on the reels is linked to it, but the old guide gave no rule for winning it, so we won't invent one. The same goes for the spellbook scatter: open the in-game paytable to see what three or more are worth before you raise your stake.
