Step one: read the screen before you spin

When the game opens you see five reels, three rows, and a column of numbers from 1 to 25 on each side. Those numbers are the paylines, and all of them are live. At the bottom-left, Bet sets the stake per line and Total bet shows what one spin costs. On the right are Auto and Spin. At the top, the Jackpot meter shows a figure that grows as people play, and the menu button opens the rules.

Tap the menu first. Symbol values, the scatter rule and the jackpot condition live there, and they are the only numbers you should trust.

Step two: pick a bet your budget can carry

Total bet is 25 times the per-line bet. The screenshots show a bet of 1 (total 25) and a bet of 3 (total 75). The arithmetic is worth doing before you start:

  • a balance of 1,000 at a total bet of 25 covers 40 spins before any wins come back
  • the same balance at 75 covers about 13

Slots pay in bursts and go quiet in between, so more spins gives the unicorn more chances to turn up. Starting at the lowest bet is rarely a mistake.

Step three: learn what a win looks like

When a line pays, the game draws it across the reels and dims everything else. Short wins are usually three matching symbols from the left, like the row of squirrels below.

The bigger moments come from the unicorn. It lands as a full-height picture and can turn its reel into a WILD column that joins up lines around it.

Step four: set a stop point

Decide before the first spin when you will stop: a loss limit, a win you are happy to walk away with, or simply a time. Auto makes it easy to lose track, so if you use it, keep the number of auto spins small.
